SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN IN SCHOOL

ReAct Plus Scheme - now available for Ukrainians

This is a scheme that supports employers and employees with the Government providing funds for both in order to create employability.
There are two options for language support:
Via the vocational training grant (maximum £1500)
If a refugee has indicated a wish to seek employment in the UK and a lack on English language skills has been identified as a barrier to employment, we can consider an application for ESOL training. When considering an application, we need to take into account the duration of the course and whether it is likely to enhance the individual’s employment prospects.
2. Via the ReAct+ Personal Development Support (PDS) grant (maximum £500)
If a refugee has indicated a wish to seek employment in the UK and a lack of skills has been identified as a barrier to employment, the individual may apply for the ReAct+ vocational training grant to address the skills need. If a lack of English skills is also identified as a barrier to employment, the individual may apply for the PDS grant of up to £500 for ESOL training. This second option is likely to be suitable for individuals who already have some skills in English and for whom a shorter ESOL course would be of benefit.
Summary of support available:
The vocational training part is arranged by Careers Wales post-education service Working Wales, and will support customers with careers advice, help with employability skills and will go through the application process and support with applying. This is the vocational training grant in a nutshell can include:
Up to £1,500 to help you get the relevant skills you need – Vocational Training Grant
Up to £4,550 to help cover childcare/caring costs when you’re training
Up to £500 of personal development support to help remove barriers to employment – Personal Development Support
Mentoring and work experience
Up to £300 of extra support towards additional costs when you’re training, including travel and accommodation
In addition Working Wales help with getting academic qualifications comparisons completed through www.enic-naric.net, and refer to partners for other funding sources.

The certificate (as above) was formed automatically after the verification.
The certificate can be verified at the Ukraine Electronic Information Service by using the QR code on the certificate.
UK DBS for Ukrainians
We have been informed by the Welsh Government Safeguarding Team: “On the issue of Ukrainians applying for DBS checks I appreciate that in many cases and many sectors (education and care being the most obvious ones) they are essential and compulsory (despite the question of whether they are proportionate for someone who has never been to the UK prior to being granted a very recent visa). However, our ID guidelines do make it possible for immigration and ‘documents from local or central government that demonstrate entitlement to benefit’ to be submitted for ID purposes. So in practice our assumption is that these documents, alongside any Ukrainian ID they may have should be enough to satisfy the criteria for them" i.e. to apply for a DBS application to be made via their employee.
FREE TRAVEL

The free travel scheme will run from 26 March for until 30 September.
The scheme provides unlimited travel on :
all local bus services
Transport for Wales rail services across Wales
bus and train services that cross into England if starting or finishing in Wales
The scheme is available to refugees travelling to Wales searching for a safe haven.

Ukrainian guests can access Universal Credit, a benefit, as soon as they arrive in the UK. Universal Credit is a monthly payment to help with living costs.
